The Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit diagnoses and treats an abundance of disorders affecting the digestive system, the liver, FTT, nutrition and swallowing, growth disorders in children and babies, difficulties eating and feeding, swallowing disorders or digestive system functioning disorders.

The Unit excels in diagnosing and treating inflammatory intestinal diseases, esophageal stomach reflux, celiac, liver diseases, constipation and diarrhea, delayed growth or thriving, eating and swallowing disorders among babies, children and adolescents until 18 years of age.

The Unit operates an inflammatory intestinal diseases clinic, in which ongoing follow-up and treatments of patients suffering from chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases are performed (such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), and treatments are provided in an outpatient setting (such as administrating Remicade and/or iron by way of IV therapy).

The Unit works in collaboration with and under the same roof as that of the Gastroenterological Institute headed by Dr. Maya Fritzki.

Spheres of Operation:

1.Consultation concerning digestion and nutrition for children aged 0-18 (outpatient and hospitalized patient clinics).

2.Conducting diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (normally under general anesthesia).

3.Carrying out ambulatory tests such as: hydrogen breath test (lactose intolerance), monitoring of esophageal pH, food sensitivity tests.

4. Diagnosis and treatment of chronic liver diseases in children, including liver biopsies

5.Performing percutaneous gastrostomy (inserting a gastrostome endoscopically (PEG = for children and adults suffering from difficulties with mouth-feeding) (for hospitalized patients and outpatients).
