The Department provides a wide range of services in the general surgery field, including open surgery and advanced laparoscopic operations.
The Surgical Department is the Northern Israel's leading Department in the field of bariatric operations (gastric banding) using laparoscopic methods, beginning with the insertion of various gastric bands, Sleeve gastrectomy, and GBP
In addition, the Department conducts anti-reflux operations, stomach tumor removals, splenectomies, colectomies and small intestine resections, rectal resections, using advanced laparoscopic techniques, laparoscopic hernia operations, laparoscopic operations for diaphoresis prevention, various breast operations, including biopsies, partial resections and sentinel gland biopsies, mastectomies, and late or immediate reconstructions (in collaboration with the Department's plastic surgeon).
The Department provides treatments for anorectal anomalies, fistulas, fissures and innovative treatments for hemorrhoids using the HAL technique (an operation used to tie hemorrhoids using ultrasound guidance).
The Department also conducts microscopic Port-a-cath operations (a valve with an extension leading to a large vein which allows oncology patients to receive chemotherapy without requiring peripheral vein IV therapy.
In collaboration with the X-ray Department, various invasive procedures are conducted for draining abscesses without requiring an abdominal opening whenever abscesses form in the abdomen
Bleedings in the upper and lower digestive systems are stopped using the selective catheterization of particular arteries.
The Department is accredited for a 42-month internship in general surgery, and trains interns during the beginning of their surgical career.
The Department is used for training interns, and conducts various seminars dealing with surgery.
Moreover, the Surgical Department contains a Trauma Unit (at the Emergency Medicine Department), in which various traumas are treated.
The Trauma Unit maintains 3 well-equipped trauma rooms.
