Neurological disorders are disorders that implicate the central nervous system (composed of the brain, brain stem, cerebellum and spinal cord) and those that implicate the peripheral nervous system.
The Unit treats a wide variety of neurological diseases:
Genetic diseases such as Down syndrome ("mongoloidism").
Congenital malformations of the nervous systems leading to mental retardation, paralysis and other congenital functional disorders. Cerebral palsy is a common example.
Epileptic disorders, whether primary or secondary (accompanying other neurological disorders).
Neurological injuries - Patients with compromised nervous systems.
Infectious diseases - Various infectious agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc.) may harm the nervous system, and cause, for example, meningitis.
Degenerative neurological diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's.
Malignant or benign tumors - Situated in various locations within the nervous system.
Secondary diseases - Various diseases such as blood disease, heart disease, malnutrition, etc. can also manifest neurologically. For example, neuropathy is a common symptom of diabetes.
Sleeping disorders - Various causes, both brain- and non-brain-related, can lead to sleep cycle disorders, such as insomnia or sleepwalking (somnambulism).
Pain - Neurology is heavily invested in the study of pain and the treatment of unique pain problems such as migraines.
Unit Services:
1.Consulting patients suffering from neurological problems at the Medical Center's various departments.
2.Examining patients arriving from the ER.
3.Treating neurological patients who undergo elective hospitalization.
